Governance

Three groups are established to facilitate the coordination of effort in the National Quantum Technologies Programme. These enable the successful delivery of the programme and development and coordination of a longer-term strategy for quantum technologies in the UK.

Programme Board

This board provides an overarching, long term, and evolving national quantum technology strategy for the UK. An overarching strategy is essential to enable the National Quantum Technologies Programme to become a long term technology/industry programme, delivering essential capabilities for the prosperity as well as the security of the UK.

The Programme Board includes senior executives from the partner organisations to enable the national quantum technology strategy can tie in to each of the partner’s own strategies.

The Programme Board has representatives from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), Innovate UK, Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC), National Quantum Computing Centre (NQCC), National Physical Laboratory (NPL), Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ), Ministry of Defence (MoD) and the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT).

Strategic Advisory Board

The Quantum Technologies Strategic Advisory Board (SAB) provides independent, expert advice to the UK Government and its arm’s-length bodies on quantum technologies.

The SAB advises on the strategic direction and implementation of the National Quantum Strategy, and the NQTP research and innovation programme. The advice of the SAB is essential in supporting the UK’s vision to be a leading quantum-enabled economy, and meeting the ambitious goals set out in the 10 year £2.5bn National Quantum Strategy. The secretariat for the SAB is provided by the Office for Quantum, a part of the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology.
